Electric batteries

Joint venture with Renault-Nissan

On 5 November, the Renault-Nissan Alliance, CEA and Fonds Stratégique d'Investissement (FSI) signed a letter of intent, in the presence of Industry Minister Christian Estrosi, to set up a joint venture to develop and manufacture batteries for electric vehicles. Production is scheduled to begin by mid 2012 at the Flins plant 30 km from Paris at a rate of 100,000 batteries per year. An estimated €600 million in investment is required for the first phase of the project. “CEA will play a key role in the joint venture's R&D programme,” said CEA Chairman, Bernard Bigot. “Our partners can count on our teams to give them all the support they need in their efforts to become leaders on the electric vehicle market.”
