Non-destructive testing: better practices through simulation

As a simulation software platform for non-destructive testing (NDT), CIVA makes it possible to design and optimise inspection methods. The goal? To enhance product quality as well as human and facility safety by detecting flaws with precision.

Non-destructive testing (NDT) includes all processes involved in inspecting a part and identifying any flaws that might adversely affect its function. Capitalising on research outcomes obtained by CEA and its partners(*) in this area, the simulation software platform Civa was developed in 1993 and has since integrated various enhancements and advances. Comprising a set of modules to simulate and process data, version 9 uses several techniques: ultrasound, eddy currents, radiography.
Civa is used in a number of industrial processes. Simulation makes it possible to conduct virtual tests from the engineering department, design new test methods, demonstrate performance, plot PoD curves, compile qualification files, understand complex phenomena in heterogeneous or anisotropic parts, and design new translators or probes.
Boasting an industry-oriented interface, the Civa platform offers innovative tools. Specific functionalities make it possible to configure multielement sensors in complex arrangements and assess the performance of new probes, based on the most recent technologies.
Available throughout the world, Civa is used by industry groups in more than 29 countries. Civa has become the NDT simulation benchmark and is progressively evolving into a software integration platform. New modules developed by universities as well as French and European companies (Moderato by EDF, Sindbad by CEA Léti) have been added to the latest versions to tailor to industry needs.

  • Broad range of simulation solutions based on various techniques (ultrasound, eddy currents, radiography).
  • Industry groups in any sector looking for non-destructive testing at a competitive cost.
  • By renting Civa on a yearly basis or by purchasing a licence. Industry groups become part of a users club with its own private website, where they can download updates, find tools and documentation, and access a question/answer forum.
